BARCELONA, SPAIN - A pioneer of the language of installation art, Francesc Torres (Barcelona, 1948) critically reflects on the diverse manifestations of culture, politics, memory and power through his multimedia installations, which give him a unique place in the art of the last few decades. The MACBA retrospective includes a selection of works carried out from the end of the sixties to the present with recent productions. Moreover, this exhibition features other unfamiliar or little known aspects of his work, such as the influence of poetic practice and, notably, the importance of drawing and of the work on image that links Torres to the language of painting.

Ana Roldan - El Hedonismo, 2008 - Oil, collage, on wood, 90 x 90 cm.

BERN.- Subsequent to the "Mahjong" exhibition (2005), efforts were made to organize an artists' exchange with China. As of 2007, with the help of the Chinese artist Ai Wei Wei an apartment-studio was set up in Beijing and made available for six months at a time to young Swiss artists. Over a period of two years, the GegenwART foundation and its patron Dr. h.c. Hansjörg Wyss supported this initiative and financed the stay of five artists/artist-couples there. These included the Geneva artists Marc Bauer, Sharyar Nashat and Pierre-Philippe Freymond, the Zurich artist Christian Vetter and the artist-brothers Cyril and Gregory Chapuisat from Founex.

Ritter/Zamet presents - Quantum of Solace - solo exhibition by French artist couple Jean François Moriceau + Petra Mrzyk

London - Ritter/Zamet presents Quantum of Solace , the second solo exhibition at the gallery by French artist couple Jean François Moriceau + Petra Mrzyk. Since their collaboration began in Nantes in 1998, Moriceau + Mrzyk’s wholly characteristic black-and-white drawings have enveloped walls, contorted around corners, appropriated and encompassed entire rooms and sprung to life as morphing hand-animated films and video projections. Across an extensive oeuvre that directly and intuitively twists the familiar into absurdity, Moriceau + Mrzyk have generated a unique imaginary realm that is as formally beguiling as it is conceptually complex.
